North Coastal Live Well Center

General Scope

A new two and three story 54,560 square foot facility for the County of San Diego, Health and Human Services Agency. Located in Oceanside, CA, the new facility will house aging & independence service, military and veterans resource center, community health promotions, regional administration, public health services, and behavioral health services. A key design criteria was to deliver a net zero building. This goal was achieved by utilizing smart building technologies and a photovoltaic system to offset the energy that the building consumes.

OUR SCOPE

Performance Automation Solutions was tasked with the installation of all the communication networks for a highly efficient LG variable refrigerant flow (VRF) HVAC system. To optimize energy use, the facility was equipped with operable windows to allow for natural ventilation take advantage of Oceanside’s temperate climate. To reduce energy consumption, PAS installed window switches that would prevent the space’s HVAC system from operating when the operable windows were open. The building included an advanced Acuity® nLight lighting system. The lighting system included occupancy sensors throughout the entire facility. FAS seamlessly integrated the lighting system with the HVAC system and utilized each zones occupancy sensor to determine the cooling and heating needs of each individual space. This allowed for zones to drift from their traditional occupied set points and not wasting energy on a space that was not being utilized. To ensure that the facility operates as efficiently as possible, utility metering was utilized and is being monitored by PAS. The continuous monitoring of energy consumption, optimized HVAC operation, and integration of the building systems allows the County of San Diego to rest easy knowing they have delivered a smart building that will leave a small mark on our environment.
